MIRI: A 21-year-old Indian national reported missing in the Baram River has been found dead, with preliminary observations indicating he may have been attacked by a crocodile.
The victim, identified as Prashant, was discovered at about 9.30 am today, roughly 1km downstream from the point where he was last seen on Wednesday evening near Kampung Kuala Tutoh. His left arm was missing when rescuers retrieved the body.
A four-man team from the Marudi Fire and Rescue Station recovered the victim during the second day of a coordinated search operation involving police and the Civil Defence Force.
The body was brought to the nearest jetty by rescue boat for handover to the authorities.
The remote terrain and poor communication signals have slowed the transmission of updates from the site.
PPgB Jessbent Jenus, who led operations at the location, confirmed that further information will be released following post-mortem examination and verification from the relevant agencies.
The authorities are continuing to monitor the area, which has known crocodile presence along the riverbanks.
