BAU: Water connection projects are still ongoing within the rural and hilly areas of Tasik Biru to provide clean and treated water directly to households.

Deputy Transport Minister and Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep reassured that the ongoing projects are set to benefit from improved water access through ongoing government initiatives under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) and the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).

“What we need are booster stations for certain areas that are too far from the main pipeline to push the water pressure.  Some houses are located in hilly areas, so without the water booster, they could not benefit.

“However, authorities are in the process of identifying some sites to set up water booster stations,” he said when met by Sarawak Tribune after the closing ceremony of the BiSIngai Townhall session at REDEEMS, Tondong, here on Saturday evening.

To make it convenient for the people, he said the project included the connection up to the meter where households can then connect themselves without having to pay for the initial setup.

“The projects include the installation of standpipes complete with water meters, allowing villagers to connect water supply to their homes without bearing initial infrastructure costs,” he noted.

Henry further explained that the approach helps overcome common challenges in rural areas, including high costs of road excavation and lengthy application processes, which often delay access to clean water.

A total of RM9 million is allocated for the projects under GKCDA to improve the water supply line particularly in underserved and remote areas.
