MIRI: A Brunei-registered Toyota Prado allegedly ran a red light and collided with a motorcycle at a traffic-light junction near Emart Tudan here, leaving a local woman rider with minor injuries.
The 8.35pm incident on Saturday (Sept 5), triggered a cross-border police operation which led to the detention of the foreign driver at the Sungai Tujoh border area.
Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said preliminary investigations found that the Toyota Prado was being driven by a foreign man in his 30s when it allegedly went through a red traffic light before striking the motorcycle ridden by a local woman, also in her 30s.
The motorcyclist sustained minor injuries and subsequently sought treatment at a private clinic.
No other vehicles were reported to have been involved in the crash.
Following the incident, officers from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Miri district police headquarters (IPD Miri), with assistance from the Royal Brunei Police Force’s Belait district police, traced and detained the suspect together with the four-wheel-drive vehicle at the Sungai Tujoh border area.
The suspect and vehicle were subsequently brought to the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of IPD Miri for further investigation.
Police are investigating the case under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving without due care and consideration.
