MIRI: Bulatan Skate Park at Taman Bulatan Miri now boasts a fresh and vibrant look with the addition of a three-dimensional (3D) floor mural titled ‘Random Female Skateboarder’, a street art piece by local artist, Kong Chak Kiong, better known as Jagung.

The interactive mural has quickly drawn public attention, especially from youth and extreme sports enthusiasts, and is expected to become a new icon in Miri’s creative tourism scene.

The design was chosen through a public voting process held in April, where it garnered the highest number of votes among several competing entries.

Work on the mural began on April 16 and was completed in July, marking another successful example of public art born from collaboration between the community and the private sector.

Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, recently visited the site to view the completed mural.

“This design was selected by the people of Miri themselves, which makes it even more special. It reflects the energy and creativity of our youth and stands as a symbol of pride for the local community,” he said.

Ting, who is also Piasau Assemblyman, said that plans are underway to upgrade Bulatan Skate Park into one of the most comprehensive recreational parks in Sarawak.

He said the enhanced facilities will include jogging tracks, basketball courts, dedicated skateboarding zones, cycling areas, and inclusive extreme sports amenities.

The mural project was fully sponsored by Shin Yang Group under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program.

With this striking addition, Bulatan Skate Park is poised to become a key destination not only for extreme sports lovers and local residents, but also for tourists and street art enthusiasts from both Malaysia and abroad.
