MIRI: Quick action by authorities and members of the public prevented a local man from harming himself at the Jalan Miri-Pujut flyover last night (Mar 12).

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Miri station were dispatched to the scene following a distress call at 8.39 pm.

Upon arrival, they found the man standing outside the flyover barrier. Firefighters attempted to talk him down from the high-risk position.

However, the 36-year-old suddenly ran onto the main road to evade rescue efforts. Members of the public quickly intervened and managed to restrain him before he could come to harm.

The man was later handed over to the police for further action.
