MUKAH: Some 781 job vacancies were offered by 14 companies participating in the Career Carnival at Dewan Suara Mesra here yesterday.
The one-day carnival from 8am to 5pm was organised by the Department of Labour Sarawak.
According to statistics from the department, Flextronics Technology (Penang) Sdn Bhd offered the most vacancies with 250, followed by Press Metal Bintulu Sdn Bhd (160) and Samling Group of Companies (114).
Other participating companies were OCIM Sdn Bhd which offered 10 vacancies, Sarawak Coal Resources Sdn Bhd (40 vacacies), MPI Pelita Mukah Sdn Bhd (seven), Rinwood Pelita (Mukah) Plantation Sdn Bhd (eight), Jayatiasa Holdings Berhad (90), Subur Tiasa Holdings Berhad (nine), Rimbunan Sawit Berhad (46), Sinong Pelita Matu Sdn Bhd (six), Elkem Carbon Malaysia Sdn Bhd (14), Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad (16) and Hock Peng Realty Sdn Bhd (11).
The response for the carnival, with open interviews being run simultaneously, was very encouraging.
There were also service counters for the public to seek advice on labour laws.
State Labour Department director Awang Raduan Awang Omar, who was present, also visited the open interview booths set up by participating companies as well as presented certificates of participation to them.
Meanwhile, Awang Raduan in a statement said the department planned to help 11,000 job seekers in Sarawak find employment this year.
“We plan to organise 11 career carnivals in various divisions this year in order to achieve the target,” he said, adding the carnival in Mukah Division was the first.
According to him, last year, the department organised 10 similar programmes in the state.
He added overall 13,595 job seekers were offered employment last year, including through interviews conducted at the departments’ divisional offices and in collaborations with other departments and agencies.
