CCTV helps cops arrest man three days after crime

MIRI:  Police here on Friday night nabbed a local man suspected for his involvement in breaking into a premises in Pujut Corner

The alleged incident was reported occurred on Feb 5.

Following tip-offs, Miri Criminal Investigation department (CID) around 9pm Friday night, led by Inspector Mohammad Nashriq Noring, rushed to an area in Pujut and had him arrested.

Police discovered three units of air-conditioners were missing from the premises. The suspect admitted to taken them from the premises which was located at the fourth floor of the building.

The premises was being used as a tuition centre, and during the intrusion, it was closed for the Chinese New Year holidays.

Police managed to track down the suspect three days after the alleged crime was committed, thanks to a surveillance camera (CCTV) installed at the premises.

Miri deputy police chief Supt Sabri Zainol when contacted yesterday confirmed the arrest made.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for house-breaking.

Also seized during his arrest was a handphone.

According to sources, the suspect had earlier on sold all three stolen air conditioners for RM300 each via Facebook.
