MIRI: The charred remains of a 63-year-old man were discovered in the driver’s seat of a burnt-out car at the entrance to a plantation in Suai, here last night (June 14).

The State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operation centre reported that firemen from the Batu Niah fire station rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call from the police at 11.05pm.

Upon arrival, they found a Proton Wira Aeroback completely burned, with the fire already extinguished.

The victim has been identified as Chen Kian Seong, a resident of Taman Permai, Bandar Baru Permyjaya.

The firemen discovered Chen’s remains in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.

Officers from Miri Fire and Rescue Zone 6 were also present at the scene to assist with the operation.

After ensuring the fire was fully extinguished and securing the site, the firemen carefully removed the victim’s remains from the vehicle.

The body was then handed over to the police for further investigation and action.

The cause of the fire and the circumstances leading to this tragic event are currently under investigation.
