KUCHING: A 53-year-old Chinese national was fined RM3,500, in default two months imprisonment, by the Magistrates’ Court here today for soliciting for prostitution.
Gao, Lihua pleaded guilty before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan to the charge under Section 372B of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum jail term of one year, or a fine, or both upon conviction.
She committed the offence at an unnumbered room at a reflexology near Batu Kawa New Township, Jalan Batu Kawa, here, at about 4:40 pm on July 21.
According to the facts of the case, police from the Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department’s conducted special operations, codenamed ‘Ops Noda’, to detect prostitution activities at the premises.
During the operations, an undercover police officer was deployed to pose as a customer.
At about 4:35 pm on the same day, the complainant received a WhatsApp message from the undercover officer indicating that the transaction was ready.
The complainant, together with a team of police personnel subsequently raided and inspected the premises.
During a check of the rooms, police found the undercover officer with Gao, who had allegedly offered sexual services.
Gao was arrested and police seized several items from the room, including an unused Hunter-brand condom, a packet of Moolnd wet tissues, a bottle of Baby Love massage oil, a towel and RM300 in cash.
Investigations, together with the evidence and seized items, led to Gao being charged under Section 372B of the Penal Code.
Gao was unrepresented during the proceedings, while Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Syazani Izzaddin appeared for the prosecution.
