KUCHING: The Class B2 Driving Licence Assistance Programme is aimed at creating employment and income opportunities for recipients while helping families overcome the financial barrier of obtaining a motorcycle licence.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the licence could be used to support recipients’ livelihoods and families as well as make their daily affairs easier.

She said recipients could use the licence to earn a living, help their families, take their parents for medical treatment, and take their children to school.

“This is our objective, to ensure that the people have opportunities to improve their lives and move towards a better future.

“We understand that for some families, the cost of obtaining a driving licence is a challenge.

“Normally, we would have to pay RM750 per person for the licence, but through this programme, recipients only pay RM250. So, it is very, very beneficial,” she said.

She said this when officiating the ‘Majlis Penyerahan Program Bantuan Lesen Memandu Kelas B2 Tahun 2026 Anjuran Parlimen P193 Santubong’ event at Wisma SABATI here today (Sat, Aug 22).

For the programme under the P193 Santubong Parliamentary constituency, 616 participants successfully obtained their Class B2 driving licences after undergoing the required screening, training and tests stipulated by the Road Transport Department (RTD).

Nancy, who is the Santubong MP, also reminded recipients that having a driving licence came with responsibility and did not mean they were free to use the roads as they pleased.

“A licence is a responsibility and a sign of trust that we are capable of being disciplined and responsible road users who respect the law,” she said.

She also urged recipients to avoid activities that could endanger themselves and other road users, including illegal racing, dangerous stunts and reckless driving.

“Remember that every action we take on the road not only affects ourselves, but also involves the safety of those we love.

“Be mature and disciplined motorcyclists and be the best example to society,” she said.
