MUKAH: Narcotics police turned the parking area of Mukah Airport into the scene of a drug bust after arresting a cleaner for having suspected syabu in his possession.

Acting on intelligence gathered on alleged drug-related activities in the area, the 28-year-old was detained at around 3.30 pm on Friday (May 8) for further inspection.

Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said checks led to the finding of a straw tube containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine, commonly known as syabu.

“Both the suspect and the seized drugs, weighing 0.36 gramme, were taken to the district police headquarters (IPD) for further actions.

“A urine screening conducted on him later returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said.

Initial investigations found the suspect admitted ownership of the drugs.

He is being remanded until May 12 to facilitate investigations under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of drugs and drug use.

Rizal stated that police remain committed to combating all forms of drug abuse and trafficking.

He also urged the public to report any information on drug-related activities through Mukah IPD hotline at 084-871222 or the nearest police station.
