MUKAH: Two local women have been sentenced to three years in prison each after admitting to criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving nearly RM30,000 in company funds.
Maniisha Mila Jilum and Kusmawati Udin, both aged 26, pleaded guilty to three charges under Section 408 of the Penal Code when they were brought before the Sessions Court here yesterday (Apr 21).
The charges were read before Judge Musyiri Peet, where they admitted to misappropriating company funds amounting to RM29,480.60.
Mukah Police Chief, DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said investigations found that the pair, who worked as palm oil weighbridge clerks at a company along Jalan Matadeng-Balingian, had generated 26 fake weighing tickets along with falsified payment vouchers to siphon money from the company.
“The company also detected discrepancies involving missing funds from its petty cash account.
“An internal audit later uncovered that the offences were carried out over a three-month period from January to March this year.
“A police report was lodged by the company director on April 4, leading to their arrest by Mukah Commercial Crime Investigation Division (CCID) on Monday (April 20),” he said.
The court sentenced both women to one year’s imprisonment for each charge, with the sentences ordered to run consecutively from the date of their arrest.
In light of this, Rizal advised organisations, particularly private companies, to strengthen internal financial controls and conduct regular audits to prevent breaches of trust and misappropriation among employees.
