KUCHING: Organisers of the Sarawak English Literacy Conference (SELC) 2025 are calling on interested educators, policymakers and stakeholders to take advantage of the early bird registration, which ends on June 16.
Set to be Malaysia’s first-ever conference dedicated to bridging English literacy with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), SELC 2025 will be held at Hikmah Exchange Event Centre (HEEC) here from September 17 to 19.
“Early bird registration is available until June 16, offering a special subsidised rate of RM300 for Malaysian delegates.
“Meanwhile, international delegates can register at the rate of USD300.
“Registration rates are exclusive of applicable sales and service tax, and any bank charges,” said the conference organiser in a statement today.
Themed as a transformative platform for education dialogue, innovation and collaboration, the inaugural conference aligns with Sarawak’s vision of developing a future-ready and globally competitive workforce.
Supported by the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD), the Ministry of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, the Sarawak State Education Department, and Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak), the event is expected to draw local and international participants.
The conference will feature prominent literacy leaders such as Deputy Chief Curriculum Planner for English at the Western Cape Education Department, Natalie Southgate, who has led groundbreaking work embedding synthetic phonics through the Jolly Phonics approach.
It will also include Dr Susan Whittaker, who has over 25 years of experience as a teacher, administrator, trainer and researcher using Jolly Phonics, as well as Universal Learning Solutions founding director, Louise Gittens, who had led major education reforms to implement Jolly Phonics on a national scale.
Meanwhile, Layar Education Development Committee (LEDC) patron, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, said SELC 2025 represents a strategic step towards nurturing talent through inclusive and forward-thinking initiatives.
“Education is key to equipping our people for the future, especially in science, technology and language skills.
“SELC 2025 embodies this vision by creating a space where international expertise and policy priorities converge,” he said.
