MUKAH: All parties need to cooperate in facing the current flood situation, emphasised Deputy Minister of Economy, Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib.
She said that with close cooperation from various parties, all efforts would run smoothly.
“Additionally, when bringing the elderly to a temporary evacuation centre (PPS), make sure their medical needs are brought along.
“Likewise, for infants, ensure that milk, diapers, and other necessities are brought along to ensure their needs are always met,” she said.
She made these remarks while chairing the Mukah District Disaster Committee meeting here, today.
In this regard, Hanifah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Mukah, also advised that a checklist be prepared early in case there is a need to evacuate to a PPS.
She explained that having such a checklist would help manage the evacuation smoothly, ensuring that victims do not forget important items or documents.
Meanwhile, she also reminded the public to prioritise safety and health during this disaster.
“During floods, we don’t know what is in the water, and there are waterborne diseases.
“Not only that, but children must be monitored and should not take advantage of the floodwaters to play in them.
“We must always be cautious of the presence of dangerous and venomous animals, especially crocodiles,” she added.
In addition, she handed over 100 food baskets to the Mukah Department of Social Welfare (JKM) to assist flood victims.
For the record, a total of 2,058 food baskets have been distributed to flood victims in several areas around the Mukah division to ease their burden.
Earlier, Hanifah heard presentations from safety and rescue agencies including the Civil Defence Force (APM) Mukah, Fire and Rescue Department Mukah, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Mukah, and the Malaysian Volunteer Department (RELA) Mukah.
The briefing covered flood monitoring reports, high-risk “hotspot” areas, and the strength of personnel and assets provided to face this calamity.
Also present were Mukah District Officer, Peleadzman Ahip, and Dalat District Officer, Matthew Hubert.
