KUCHING: The Sarawak government will hold a Chinese New Year (CNY) 2026 open house on Feb 17 (Tuesday) from 10am to 2pm at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said an official meeting will be held next week to outline the programme for the event.
“The Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar is expected to attend the open house.
“We also welcome everyone to come and celebrate together, as this is a time for families and all Sarawakians to gather,” he said.
He said this after switching on the Chinese New Year decorative lights at the White Cat statue at the Padungan roundabout last night (Feb 5).
Dr Sim said various performances by local talents will be featured, including lion and dragon dance performances.
“There will also be Chinese New Year songs performed not only by the Chinese community, but also by Dayak and Muslim communities. Everyone can sing these songs together,” he said.
Dr Sim also remind the public to always drive safely during the festive celebration
“Do not drive after drinking. We want you to celebrate the new year happily, not in the hospital,” he said.
