LAWAS: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan advocated that all citizens must embrace openness and mutual understanding with one another as an essential foundation, particularly within a multi-racial and multi-religious society.

He said that every celebration is a valuable opportunity for people to come together as one big family regardless of race, culture or belief— reflecting shared universal human values and as a platform to strengthen the spirit of unity among the local community.

“The Christmas message of love, hope and generosity is in line with the teachings of all religions, which emphasises mutual respect, justice and peace.

He stated this in his speech during the Pre-Christmas Celebration organised by the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Ba’kelalan Branch, held at the Lawas Indoor Stadium on Friday.

Awang Tengah also expressed gratitude for Sarawak’s continued progress, achieved through visionary leadership and the stability of the state government that remains consistent with its direction for a long-term development.

He also called on the younger generation to uphold the spirit of cooperation, integrity and commitment to drive a better future for the well-being of the state and the nation.

The Pre-Christmas Celebration was enlivened by various performances, including cultural dances, choir presentations and the singing of Christmas songs, as well as active participation from the local community, reflecting the harmony and solidarity of the people of Lawas.
