LUNDU: Residents of Kampung Sedaing came together for a day of sports, culture and community spirit at the ‘Santai Sukan Anggun Budaya’ programme last night (Feb 20).
The event was officiated by Opar assemblyman, Billy Sujang, who praised the strong participation of villagers and described the initiative as a meaningful effort to foster social cohesion at the grassroots level.
“Events like this are timely and appropriate in our efforts to strengthen the spirit of unity, promote a healthy lifestyle, and preserve the artistic and cultural heritage within our community,” Billy said.
He added that activities such as friendly sports events, cultural performances, and competitions including ‘Ratu Kebaya’ and ‘Jejaka Tampan’ not only uncover talents and potential among village residents, but also provide a platform to strengthen bonds within the community, regardless of age.
“Programmes like this encourage active participation among young people and women, and can act as a catalyst for social development at the village level,” he said, highlighting the role of women and youth.
The programme also featured a lucky draw, lucky number draw, and karaoke contest, adding to the lively atmosphere of the event.
Billy expressed hope that similar initiatives would continue in the future to nurture a united, competitive community that values and preserves the cultural traditions passed down through generations.
