MIRI: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Pujut branch Mobile Bee Service Team held a community outreach programme at an eatery premises in Piasau here to assist residents with applications for various government welfare schemes on Saturday morning.
More than 30 residents attended the event, seeking guidance and submitting applications for the Sarawak Basic Aid Scheme (SKAS), Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC), Sarawak Senior Citizens Health Assistance (SCHB), and S PAY Global.
The initiative aims to make government welfare programmes more accessible, particularly for senior citizens and those in need.
The event saw an enthusiastic response, with many residents arriving early to secure their turn, expressing appreciation for SUPP’s assistance in navigating the application processes.
SUPP Pujut Branch Publicity and Information secretary Chong Kong Min highlighted the importance of such mobile service initiatives in bridging gaps faced by residents when applying for government aid.
“These programmes bring essential services closer to the people, ensuring that eligible individuals receive the benefits they are entitled to,” he said.
Chong also noted that some elderly individuals were unfamiliar with digital payment systems such as S PAY Global.
“We provided explanations and guidance to help them adapt to cashless transactions, making it easier for them to embrace digital financial services,” he said.
He reaffirmed SUPP’s commitment to organising similar outreach programmes in different locations, ensuring wider community access to government assistance.
