KUCHING: Safety is not solely the responsibility of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), but requires the cooperation of the entire community to ensure Sarawak remains peaceful and safe.
Bukit Aman Department of Crime Prevention and Community Safety (JPJKK) Director, Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin, said the community policing approach is important in strengthening the relationship between the police and the people.
“Safety is not solely the responsibility of the police. The success of building a peaceful and safe environment requires the involvement and cooperation of the entire community,” he said.
He said this in his speech at the Wira MADANI Tour Programme for the Sarawak Contingent at Wisma Sabati, here on Thursday night (Sept. 3).
According to him, close cooperation between the PDRM and the community must continue through the spirit of ‘The Police and the Community Are Inseparable’ in efforts to prevent crime, address drug-related problems and curb issues affecting community wellbeing.
He added that the public should also make use of the interaction opportunities provided through programmes such as service counters, asset exhibitions and health screening facilities to get to know the PDRM better.
“Interaction platforms such as these allow the public to get to know the PDRM better and subsequently build stronger confidence and trust,” he added.
He also stressed that the harmony of Sarawak’s multi-ethnic, multicultural and multireligious society is a key strength in maintaining the state’s stability and security.
Meanwhile, Noor Hisam also expressed his appreciation to police veterans and the wider PDRM family who had made sacrifices to ensure the country’s peace and security are preserved.
Through the programme, welfare assistance was also presented to recipients, including police widows, orphans, children with special needs, asnaf and retired police personnel who are in poor health.
“This contribution may not be able to fully repay all their services and sacrifices, but it carries the message that the PDRM always cares and has never forgotten its families and veterans.
“The peace we enjoy today was also built upon the blood, sweat and sacrifices of previous generations. Their services and contributions will always be remembered and appreciated,” he added.
