KOTA SAMARAHAN: A Maxis contractor narrowly escaped injury after a fire broke out on a telecommunications tower while he was carrying out maintenance work in Kampung Binyu Baru last night.
The contractor was performing maintenance about 100 feet above the ground when the fire suddenly erupted, forcing him to make an emergency descent.
He managed to climb down safely before emergency responders arrived at the scene. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters from the Kota Samarahan and Tabuan Jaya fire stations were deployed after receiving a distress call at 8.18 pm.
Upon arrival, they found part of the telecommunications tower engulfed in flames.
The fire was extinguished using water from a fire engine before firefighters conducted a thorough inspection to ensure the area was safe.
The operation concluded at 8.32 pm.
