KUCHING: A traffic policeman with the rank of lance corporal from Bukit Aman was charged today before the Magistrate’s Court today for alleged involvement in the murder a 34-year-old man along Jalan Stephen Yong last month.
No plea was taken by the Genesis Nitchell David Reddy, 29, before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali to one count under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
The section provides for the death penalty or life imprisonment and caning upon conviction.
The court has scheduled June 10 for next mention pending a chemist report.
Genesis is represented by counsels Russell Lim and Brendan Ting.
The incident happened on the morning of Apr 26 when two men arrived at Batu Kawa police station around 5.30 am, reporting that their friend had been shot while inside a car.
Officers later discovered the victim, identified as Muhammad Zaki Iderus, dead with a gunshot wound to the head.
Padawan police chief Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi confirmed that six suspects were arrested at various locations between 4 pm and 5.30 pm on the same day – just hours after the case was reported.
The police also seized a pistol with 10 bullets.
