Cops arrest two for meth, unlicensed shotgun

SIBU: Narcotics police arrested two locals for allegedly having suspected methamphetamine and a homemade shotgun last Sunday (Mar 9).

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the raid was carried out at around 2.50 pm in a house at Ladang Lengan, Jalan Batang Lebaan in Tanjung Manis.

“During the operation, two men aged 20 and 35 were arrested and the team seized a homemade shotgun along with six 12-gauge bullets and 6.18g of methamphetamine.

“Both suspects have been remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 39(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960,” he said in a statement.

A conviction under Section 39(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, carries a mandatory sentence of two years imprisonment and three strokes of the cane, while Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 provides for up to seven years’ imprisonment or a RM10,000 fine or both.

Zulkipli called on the public to report any suspicious activities related to the possession of unlicensed firearms and drug abuse to help maintain community safety.
