KUCHING: A suspected motorcycle rim thief with a history of crime was arrested by police yesterday (May 6), leading to the seizure of a motorcycle and several items linked to the case.

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the 29-year-old was arrested by the ‘Ops Lejang’ team at around 1.15pm in Simpang Tiga area.

The arrest was made in connection with a police report lodged on May 2 regarding the theft of motorcycle rims in Jalan Mahkamah Lama.

“Initial investigations found that the suspect was allegedly involved in the theft case.

“A preliminary urine screening also found him tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

“Background checks showed the suspect has two prior records,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 379A(1) of the Penal Code for theft of motor vehicle components, which carries a jail term of up to seven years, and may also include a fine, upon conviction.

Alexson urged those with information related to the case to contact investigating officer Sgt Sudianta Deya at 019-8492500 or the nearest police station.
