KUCHING: A 23-year-old man was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment by the Magistrates’ Court today for retaining stolen property, namely two high-end clothing items, earlier this year.
Senior Assistant Registrar Abdurrahman Abrar Jami ordered Allenick Tinggom to serve the prison terms concurrently after he pleaded guilty to two charges under Section 411 of the Penal Code.
The offence carries a penalty of up to five years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
According to the charge sheet, Allenick committed the offence on Jan 5 at about 12.21 pm by retaining two stolen clothing items — a black Nike sweater and a black-and-white Jujutsu Kaisen shirt.
Court facts revealed that on Dec 28, 2025, the complainant discovered the front door of his house open and the interior in a ransacked condition.
Further inspection found the back door gate damaged and a window left open.
Missing items included the two clothing pieces, two smartphones (an iPhone and a Lenovo device), and RM30 in coins, resulting in estimated losses of about RM1,000.
The complainant later lodged an additional report concerning the two clothing items allegedly stolen by Allenick.
On Jan 5, police arrested him at a court in Kota Samarahan, where officers found the two clothing items in his vehicle.
Investigations established that he had retained the stolen items, and he failed to provide a reasonable explanation for possessing them.
The complainant subsequently positively identified the clothing as belonging to him.
It is understood that the accused has several prior criminal records involving theft and housebreaking.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Afi Safly Nor Kazly, while Allenick was unrepresented.
