KUCHING: The Clinical Research Centre (CRC) at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) received 10 new chairs worth RM20,000 to enhance comfort for patients and caregivers.
Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the new chairs donated by Persatuan 38 Yayasan Pencinta Amal is a meaningful contribution reflects the spirit of compassion and community support towards our healthcare services.
“As the number of patients and research participants continues to grow, the need for supportive and patient-friendly facilities becomes increasingly important.
“The provision of adequate seating is not merely a matter of convenience, but one of dignity, comfort and care.
“Many patients undergoing treatment or participating in clinical trials spend long hours at the centre, often accompanied by their caregivers and family members,” she said.
She was speaking at the handover ceremony of the chairs at CRC SGH this morning.
She added that having sufficient chairs becomes essential to ensure that no patient or caregiver is left standing for long periods.
“For caregivers, these chairs provide a place to remain close to their loved ones, offering emotional support throughout the treatment process,” said the minister.
Fatimah also expressed her gratitude and appreciation to Persatuan 38 Yayasan Pencinta Amal for the contribution which set an exmple corporate social responsibility (CSR)
“This contribution is highly meaningful as an interim measure to help address the shortage of beds in healthcare facilities, while ensuring that patients’ comfort continues to be maintained.
“The specially designed chairs donated are not only more comfortable than standard chairs, but are also equipped with ergonomic features that are better suited for patient use, particularly in situations requiring longer waiting periods or extended treatment.
“Indeed, this initiative reflects a strong sense of care and social responsibility on the part of corporate bodies and non-governmental organisations,” added Fatimah.
She said this also serves as an excellent example of how strategic collaboration between the public and private sectors can strengthen facilities and enhance the well-being of the community.
