MIRI: The State Library here is strengthening collaboration with local leaders to expand literacy initiatives and community development programmes across northern Sarawak.
The effort was highlighted during a courtesy call by its delegation on Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (Entrepreneur Development) and Lambir assemblyman.
The visit reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen strategic partnerships and secure support for programmes that promote knowledge-based development and foster a reading culture among communities.
The delegation was led by Regional Manager Edison Ricket, accompanied by three officers from the Miri branch.
During the engagement, the delegation shared several upcoming initiatives, including the ‘Jom Baca Bersama 10 Minit’ 2026 programme, part of a nationwide campaign encouraging simultaneous reading across the country.
Discussions also focused on efforts to enhance adult literacy, particularly among rural and semi-urban communities in northern Sarawak.
These initiatives aim to ensure inclusive access to knowledge and information, especially for communities in underserved areas.
The visit further underscored the importance of collaboration between institutions and local leaders in strengthening community-based learning and promoting a reading culture.
The library expressed hope the partnership would continue to grow in supporting long-term efforts to empower communities through knowledge and education.
