KUCHING: The Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) SWAT team was deployed to the Pasir Panjang and Pasir Pandak beach areas in Santubong following public reports of a crocodile sighted near the area.
The corporation said on the night of June 6, a female crocodile estimated to be 3.2 metres long was successfully captured and relocated to a more suitable location.
It added this action was taken to ensure the safety of beach visitors.
“SFC advises the public to always be cautious when engaging in water activities near river mouths, rivers, and coastal areas—especially during dusk and nighttime.
“The public is urged to avoid any areas marked with crocodile warning signs,” the corporation said in a recent statement.
SFC also expressed appreciation to the public for their cooperation and advised continued vigilance in the area.
It excplained that the presence of crocodiles in certain areas is part of the ecological reality increasingly shared between humans and wildlife.
“Therefore, it is important for local communities to understand the presence patterns of these species and adapt their behavior and daily activities accordingly. By respecting each other’s living space, we can create a balance between human safety and environmental sustainability,” it said.
Members of the public who spot crocodiles or have information about new sightings are urged to report them via the Sarawak Croc Watch app or contact the nearest SFC office.
Previously, sightings of the crocodile near the area had gone viral on social media.
