SARIKEI: Efforts to decorate public spaces with cultural and festive elements should continue as they create opportunities for social interaction among different races and help strengthen community harmony, said Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii.
He said such initiatives not only enliven festive celebrations but also serve as an effective platform to foster goodwill and mutual respect among Malaysians.
“Chinese New Year symbolises a new beginning and hope for a more prosperous future.
“The organisation of this programme also reflects the cultural diversity that is the nation’s strength,” he said when officiating the Chinese New Year 2026 Decoration Programme at Taman Layang-Layang Sarikei on Saturday (Feb 7).

Huang, who is also Sarikei Member of Parliament, said the initiative enhances Sarikei’s image as a domestic tourism destination while potentially stimulating local economic activities through increased visitor presence.
The programme attracted about 100 visitors and featured a blend of traditional and modern decorations, including red lanterns, community-friendly creative displays and a replica of the Year of the Horse zodiac.
The Chinese New Year 2026 Decoration Programme reflects ongoing efforts by relevant parties to promote unity and harmony in line with the aspirations of a multiracial nation.
