MIRI: The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Curtin University Malaysia and the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) demonstrates its commitment towards working hand-in-hand to stimulate further economy growth.
RECODA Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Datuk Ismawi Ismuni, said it will also strengthen entrepreneurship and innovation across Sarawak.
“Curtin University Malaysia is the ideal partner to take this momentum forward.
“With its international presence, commitment to research, and reputation for producing highly employable graduates, Curtin is uniquely positioned to support our human capital agenda,” he said.
He said this in his speech during the MOU signing ceremony at The Council Room, Curtin University here today.
He then stated that the collaboration open doors to research, seminars, community programmes, and industry linkages.
“But more than that, it sets a foundation for sustainable impact, long after this event.
“I look forward to pursuing this MOU, from planning to execution. As Thomas Edison said, ‘Vision without execution is hallucination’,” he added.
In the meantime, interim Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and CEO of Curtin University, Prof. Vincent Lee. said this MOU represents more than a formal agreement; it is the beginning of a promising partnership grounded in its shared commitment to sustainable, inclusive socio-economic development.
“Our collaboration is rooted in a mutual desire to make a lasting impact, particularly in communities within the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE).
“Through this MOU, we are laying the groundwork for coordinated efforts in key areas such as community capacity-building, knowledge-sharing, research and innovation, and the design and implementation of impactful development programme,” he said.
Lee then said its shared focus on the circular economy will allow them to explore new models of sustainable enterprise that can both support environmental stewardship and uplift livelihoods.
“Together, we can empower local communities through knowledge, technology and entrepreneurship, helping them participate meaningfully in Sarawak’s transformation journey.
“We also look forward to collaborating on activities that encourage policy dialogue, workshops, seminars and research that address local challenges with local solutions.
“Importantly, we will engage in joint consultancies, community outreach, and industrial engagement, ensuring our work translates into real-world outcomes that matter. This MOU is the start of what I am confident will be a long-term, high-impact collaboration,” he added.
