KUCHING: Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) has launched a new Smart Sticker System (SSS) which is able to identify premises operating without a valid DBKU licence. Mayor Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai said the SSS will allow inspections and reports to be accurately uploaded on the DBKU system. “The sticker is coated with a special material to ensure that it is not replicated and hence, only the commission is able to distribute it.

“Apart from that, members of the public will also be able to gain access to general information of the premises from the sticker,” said Wahap in his speech during the launching ceremony of SSS at DBKU Headquarters, yesterday.

State Secretary Tan Sri Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani was present to grace the ceremony. Another new technology from DBKU, an automated and mobile CCTV known as the KIWIMOBIEYE, was also launched yesterday. KIWIMOBI-EYE is a system that is capable of integrating with most cameras manufactured today and is a wireless device that could be operated via long distance.

“The device is solar-powered and is equipped with either BC or AC connection to ensure efficiency. “We believe with this technology, monitoring and inspection work can be carried out more effectively, especially on illegal waste disposal activities, vandalism and even traffic jams in DBKU areas,” said Wahap. Meanwhile, DBKU staff also took their Integrity Pledge yesterday.

The signing of the pledge was conducted by DBKU Director, Jumaini Haili and the Director of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commision (MACC) Sarawak, Dato Badrulshah Norman. Both Wahap and Morshidi stood behind the two signatories to witness the pledge. Morshidi also congratulated DBKU which has contributed tremendously towards the city.

“Apart from beautification of the city, DBKU has successfully maintained four standard certifications: MS ISO 9001, EMS ISO 14001, OHSAS 18000 and ISO 50001:2011 Energy Management System (EnMS 50001).

“I hope it will continue to excel in many ways, whether in discovering new technologies or contributing in other ways,” said Morshidi. Me a n w h i l e , t h e D B K U Innovation Award was awarded to the group Hybrid GLAMCO, which was led by DBKU Deputy Director Durie Austine Tinggie. The group received a cash award of RM1,000 with complementary plaque and certificates.
