KUCHING: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has called out to Pakatan Harapan (PH) and DAP leaders in the wake of their loss in all eight urban constituencies in the recent Sabah state election, saying calls for the parties to apologise to voters reflect what he describes as a long-standing pattern of unfulfilled promises.

In a statement, the SUPP Kota Sentosa Branch chairman said DAP’s electoral setbacks were not due to communication or messaging issues but stemmed from what he called a lack of performance and political effectiveness.

Yap said that despite DAP holding 40 parliamentary seats and being part of the Federal Government, the party had not been able to influence national policies or address issues affecting ordinary Malaysians, particularly the Chinese community.

“If a party with such a large bloc of MPs still cannot shape or defend policies that impact the people, it shows a clear lack of political weight,” he said.

Yap contrasted this with the delivery record of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government, saying SUPP’s role within the coalition has enabled progress on development projects, support for Chinese schools, community funding and improvements to basic infrastructure such as roads, lighting and drainage.

He said these outcomes were achieved because GPS governs Sarawak directly and secures resources for local communities, adding that the coalition’s stability has kept the state free from what he described as divisive peninsula-based politics.

“The Chinese community does not need repeated apologies or political theatre. What our community needs are results, stability and consistent delivery.

“The Sabah election results were a reminder that voters were increasingly rejecting parties that overpromise and under-deliver,” he said, adding that SUPP and GPS would continue prioritising governance, stability and development.

He stressed that SUPP would continue safeguarding the interests of the Chinese community and all Sarawakians through consistent delivery and effective administration.
