SIBU: Diesel worth about RM415,750 was seized in two separate operations involving tanker lorries here on Tuesday (Apr 7).
Sarawak Marine Police Force Region 5 (PPMW5) commander ACP Ab Rahman Mat Hasan said the total seizure amounted to approximately 26,500 litres of diesel.
He said in the first operation, dubbed ‘Op Taring Landai (Op Tiris – Pembanteras Ketirisan/Penyelewengan Minyak Diesel)’, a tanker lorry stopped along Jalan Getah was found carrying about 16,000 litres of diesel believed to have been misappropriated.
“The driver, a local man, failed to produce any permit or written approval from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) when requested,” he said in a statement.
In a separate case under ‘Op Taring Pensura’, two tanker lorries inspected at Sungai Seduan, Sungai Merah were found carrying about 10,500 litres of diesel.
“The drivers failed to provide any valid documents or permits for possessing or storing controlled goods,” he added.
Ab Rahman said all suspects, vehicles and the seized diesel were detained before being handed over to KPDN Sibu for further investigation.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961, which carries a penalty of up to RM2 million, imprisonment, or both upon conviction.
