KOTA SAMARAHAN: For three Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak students, the journey to receiving the prestigious Vice-Chancellor’s Award (ANC) during the university’s 102nd convocation ceremony today was one marked by discipline, sacrifice and respect.

Moses Peter Gabriel, 22, who completed his Diploma in Public Administration before pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Administrative Science, said his success was the result of smart studying and good time management.

“Make your own notes, find the right friends for assignments, and be good with lecturers.

“They can really help you along the way. Most importantly, manage your time well, especially by getting enough sleep,” he shared.

Moses, who will continue his studies in the same field, encouraged new students to set high goals.

“All the best to those just entering UiTM. I hope they will also make the Dean’s List or even ANC like I did,” he added.

For Kapit-born Claudio Rolna Raul Carol, 22, receiving the award was both a proud and expected outcome of years of effort.

“Every semester, I put in a lot of work studying and completing assignments, sometimes without sleep.

“So, getting the ANC felt like the minimum I should achieve from all that,” he said.

Claudio, who consistently made the Dean’s List with a CGPA averaging between 3.8 and 3.9, credited his lecturers for pushing him to excel.

“Our lecturers, especially during the diploma, were very encouraging. Studying didn’t even feel like studying, we enjoyed the process and gained knowledge along the way,” he added

Hurilain Hanis Naser

Meanwhile, Hurilain Hanis Naser, 24, admitted she did not receive the award during her diploma years but used that setback as motivation.

“That pushed me to work harder during my degree,” she said.

Currently working while planning her future, Hurilain hopes to pursue a Master’s degree within the next two years.

“My advice is to work hard for yourself, not for others.

“Respect your parents, your lecturers and maintain your relationship with God. Then everything will fall into place,” she said.
