PADAWAN: The family of late Flying Doctor Service (FDS) nurse Debra Moset will continue to receive support from the community and the Sarawak government as they come to terms with her death, says Mambong assemblyman Datuk Dr Jerip Susil.
He said Debra’s husband and children had been deeply traumatised by her sudden passing, but the support surrounding them would help remind the family that they are not facing the loss alone.
“They are not alone. They have the support not just of the community, but also of the support system within the Sarawak community itself.
“We will continue to support them, and should they require counselling or other emotional assistance in the future, we will reach out and provide the necessary support,” he told reporters.
He was met while paying his last respects to the late Debra at her family home in Kampung Semadang today (Sept 13).
Dr Jerip said Debra’s passing had affected not only her family but also her colleagues in the Health Department, the wider Bidayuh community and surrounding communities.
He said this was especially evident in Kampung Semadang, where close ties between communities had prompted residents from nearby villages to come forward and pay their respects.
“Today is a very sad day for the entire Bidayuh community, especially in the N10 Bengoh/Mambong area,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to the media, Sarawak government, Sarawak Health Department, Padawan administrative authorities, community leaders and residents for their support during the bereavement.
He also thanked all parties involved in handling Debra’s remains from Miri to Kuching and subsequently from Kuching International Airport to her family home.
He added the police had also arranged an escort for the procession to the residence.
Today, her remains arrived at Kuching International Airport (KIA) at about 11.45am before reaching her family home in Kampung Semadang at about 12.40pm.
Dr Jerip said the remains of the late Debra will be laid to rest tomorrow at the St Patrick’s Church Cemetery in Kampung Semadang, with the ceremony at 10.30 am.
