KUCHING: The next five years leading up to 2030 will be a critical period for Sarawak’s development, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Dr Sim said the state will continue to push forward with infrastructure implementation, covering roads as well as water and electricity supply.

“Our infrastructure allocation this year is RM9 billion, while the federal government’s total infrastructure budget is about RM80 billion, of which RM6 billion is allocated to Sarawak.

“In the next five years, everything will be completed. That is why this election is so important – not just to complete infrastructure, but to move beyond it,” he said when delivering his speech at the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Convention 2026 held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching here today (April 19).

Dr Sim, who is also president of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), said Sarawak is increasingly becoming a model for other states.

“Nowadays, everyone is looking at Sarawak and talking about it. If Sarawak is doing well, Malaysia is also doing well,” he said.

He also called on all component parties within Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to remain united.

“We must stay together. We have remained united until today, and there is no reason we cannot continue to do so.

“SUPP and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu have been trusted partners since 1970, and later Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) joined us.

“What we need to do now is to continue working together and ensure we share positive developments, not just highlight negative issues,” he said.

Dr Sim expressed confidence that the coming five years will be the best period Sarawak has experienced in its 63 years within Malaysia.

“This is possible under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg,” he added.
