KOTA SAMARAHAN: A driver has been slapped with a traffic summons after a dangerous overtaking manoeuvre along Jalan Kota Samarahan-Asajaya was captured and went viral on social media.
The case came to light following a public complaint shared on the “Sarawak Roads Update” Facebook page, showing a Perodua Bezza overtaking a lorry on a double line.
Such an act was deemed hazardous as it endangered oncoming traffic.
Further investigations by the Kota Samarahan Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division led to the identification of the driver today (Apr 20).
A traffic summons was subsequently issued via the MCOPS system for overtaking on a double line.
The offence falls under Rule 6(1) of the Road Traffic Rules 1959. Offenders may be fined up to RM300 if compounded or, upon conviction in court, face a fine of up to RM1,000 or imprisonment of up to three months.
Kota Samarahan police said that such reckless behaviour poses a serious risk to other road users and urged motorists to adhere to traffic rules and drive responsibly at all times.
