MIRI: A 28-year-old man was injured after the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) he was driving crashed into the rear of a lorry trailer in the early hours of Sunday morning here.
Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre said the collision occurred along Jalan Krokop Utama at around 1.46 am.
Personnel from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched from the Miri fire station and arrived at the scene six minutes later, travelling about six kilometres from their base.
On arrival, emergency crews found a Toyota Alphard MPV lodged beneath the rear of a trailer lorry. The impact had trapped the driver in the vehicle’s front section.
The victim, identified as Lee Chee Heong, 28, suffered injuries and was pinned in the driver’s seat when rescuers reached him.
Firefighters carried out a rapid assessment of the scene before beginning a rescue operation using specialised equipment.

The man was eventually freed from the wreckage and handed over to paramedics from the Ministry of Health Malaysia for further treatment.
The situation was brought under control shortly after 2.10 am.
Fire crews remained at the scene to ensure the area was safe before concluding the operation at around 2.33 am.
Seven firefighters were deployed in the operation using a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and an EMRS medical response unit.
