BAU: A 42-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly issuing criminal threats against his younger sister during a dispute at Kampung Serikin here.

Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the suspect was picked up by the district’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) at a farm hut yesterday (May 4).

Also seized from him was a machete with its sheath, measuring about 60cm, along with a torchlight believed to be linked to the incident.

“Initial investigations found that the incident stemmed from a verbal argument between the suspect and his sister.

“The man is believed to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time. He denied involvement in any other criminal activities and is not a drug user,” he said.

Mohd Haide said the case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, which provides for imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Meanwhile, members of the public are advised not to resort to threats or aggressive behaviour when resolving disputes, and instead seek proper and lawful channels.

Those with information on criminal activities are urged to come forward to assist police in maintaining public safety and order.
