MUKAH: Narcotics police have arrested two local men for allegedly possessing suspected methamphetamine inside a car on Tuesday (Feb 25).
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias, in a statement, said that the arrest was made around 10.30 am when officers spotted a suspicious vehicle along Jalan Mukah-Selangau.
Further inspection led to the discovery of 0.44g of a straw tube containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine in the suspects’ possession.
The seized drugs and the men, aged 27 and 41, were taken to the Mukah district police headquarters (IPD) for further action.
Rizal added that the suspects, who tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, will be remanded until tomorrow (Feb 28) to assist with investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
If convicted, the men could face imprisonment for a term of up to five years, a fine of up to RM100,000, or both.
They will also be placed under police supervision for a term of up to three years.
