MIRI: Two local men were arrested after a highspeed chase with the police on Sunday (Mar 3).
During the incident, Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers were forced to
fire two shots, after the suspects, aged 35 and 29, evaded arrest, and almost rammed into one of the CID personnel with a Perodua Axia,
The incident occurred around 5.55 pm at a junction in Tudan Desaras,
here.
Fortunately, none of the CID personnel were injured in the incident which had earlier led to a high speed chase before the suspects’ car skidded off the road and crashed into a monsoon drain.
According to Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the duo were detained under Section 506 and Section 307 of the Penal Code.
Alexson said that prior to the incident, the police had received a report from a complainant in Tudan Desaras about several people constantly making excessive noise with their motorcycles within the neighbourhood.
“The suspects were not happy about the complaint made against them, and they had threatened the complainant, prompting the complainant to lodge a police report,” said Alexson.
Acting on the report, a team of Miri CID personnel went to the residential area to locate the suspects’ whereabouts.
Coincidentally, upon their arrival at the area, the police spotted the suspects’ car at one of the junctions, and instructed them to stop their vehicle.
But, the suspects suddenly accelerated towards the police, almost hitting one of the CID personnel, before attempting to flee.
The suspects are currently being remanded for five days until Mar 9 to facilitates police investigation.
