KUCHING: A four-day eco-tourism showcase at Paku Rock Maze Garden promises immersive nature, culture and community experiences.
Joint organising chairman Cr Pui Chung Wei said visitors can expect a thoughtfully curated programme blending wellness activities, coffee talks, a forest market and cultural performances under the “Revisiting Paku Rock Maze Garden: Green & Gold Experience”.
“The event is designed to create meaningful connections between people, place and community while offering a refreshing way to experience Bau’s natural and cultural assets,” he said during a press conference at the Bau District Office on Thursday (April 23).
The event will run from April 30 to May 3, from 9am to 6pm daily, coinciding with a long weekend. Organisers are encouraging both locals and tourists to take the opportunity to explore the site and its surroundings.
Pui described the initiative as a purposeful effort to rediscover and reintroduce Paku Rock Maze Garden while elevating the profile of Paku Town and the wider Bau District as an emerging eco-tourism destination.
“Tourism today is about experiencing stories and Bau has many unique stories waiting to be shared with the world.”
He explained that the “Green & Gold” concept reflects a dual vision — “Green” symbolising sustainability, environmental awareness and nature-based experiences while “Gold” represents Bau’s rich heritage and its strong tourism potential.
Paku Rock Maze Garden is part of the Sarawak Delta Geopark, currently under evaluation for Global Unesco Geopark recognition, further enhancing its appeal to international visitors.
Over the years, the site has drawn travellers from around the world and organisers hope the event will attract both new and returning visitors with a renewed perspective.
The programme will also feature an official opening of a newly installed kiosk system by Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin on May 1.
A key highlight includes a Sundown After Party at Borneo Keranji Farm on the same day, held in conjunction with Labour Day.
The session will showcase handcrafted tuak tasting, traditional performances and opportunities for visitors to don traditional costumes, offering a deeper connection to local heritage and lifestyle.
