SARIKEI: Education is not just a pathway to personal success but a cornerstone for building a more advanced and competitive future for the nation.

In stating this, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, stressed that developing quality human capital must be a priority to ensure both the country and the state continue to progress.

“Education is a powerful agent of change that can uplift people’s lives. With strong knowledge and values, we can nurture a generation capable of leading and developing society,” he said.

He said this in a speech read by Pemanca Chan Phan Chan during the Graduation and Excellence Ceremony at SMK St Anthony’s graduation ceremony here yesterday.

Huang, who is also the Sarikei MP, also reminded students to equip themselves with 21st-century skills, including critical thinking, effective communication and adaptability to global changes.

“The world is evolving rapidly. Use technology wisely and dare to explore. Knowledge is our shield, and noble values guide us through life,” he added.

He also called on parents and the local community to continue supporting schools as strategic partners in enhancing the quality of education.

“Student success does not rest solely on teachers and schools but is also shaped by moral support, attention, and encouragement from family,” he said.

The Repok assemblyman also reaffirmed his commitment to making Sarikei a leading hub of educational excellence in Sarawak, in line with the state government’s initiatives, including free tertiary education for local residents under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
