BINTULU: Jepak assemblyman, Iskandar Turkee, has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the Bintulu Welfare Trust Board (LAKIB) as part of ongoing efforts to assist the asnaf community and others in need here.

According to Iskandar, his office is collaborating with the chairman of the Bintulu Orphans Welfare Association (Peryatim), Datuk Haidar Khan Asghar Khan, to develop initiatives aimed at improving the economic status of asnaf families.

“We want the asnaf community not only to receive assistance but also be able to generate their own income.

“Therefore, we are planning various specialised programmes to help them develop small home-based industries, such as producing shrimp paste, frozen food and traditional cakes.

“These programmes will also include training and guidance to ensure they can compete in the market,” he said.

He made these remarks during a ceremony to present ‘duit raya’ to orphans, a contribution from Peryatim Bintulu, held at At-Taqwa Mosque, RPR Sebiew, here today.

In addition, he said the Jepak Service Centre is actively providing basic food assistance through the food basket programme while also offering educational support and skills training to young people, particularly school leavers.

Iskandar also stated that his office has established partnerships with ADTEC Bintulu and the Mara Skills Institute (IKM) to provide vocational training in fields required by industries here.

“We are also working with PETROS and PETRONAS to offer both short-term and long-term training courses in the oil and gas sector.

“I encourage young people to visit the Jepak Service Centre to obtain information on available training and employment opportunities,” he added.
