KUCHING: Eight people were left with clothes on their backs after a fire tore through two homes in Kampung Sinar Budi Baru here today.
The blaze, which occurred at around 10:00 am, destroyed two 40ft by 40ft non-permanent houses.
One of the affected homes was occupied by eight people, while the second house was unoccupied at the time of the incident.
Aside from that, the fire also slightly damaged a third house, causing about five per cent damage.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported as the occupants managed to escape to safety.

Firefighters from Batu Lintang and Kota Sentosa stations were dispatched to the scene, about 18 kilometres away.
Upon arrival, they found two houses already engulfed in flames and immediately mounted firefighting operations to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further.
Drawing water from a nearby fire hydrant, firefighters brought the fire under control at 10:42 am before declaring the scene safe.
The operations ended at 11:08 am after crews confirmed there was no risk of the fire reigniting.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred is yet to be determined.
