KOTA SAMARAHAN: The opening of a new Eight Toast Nanyang Kopitiam outlet at The Summer Shopping Mall here is expected to boost local and domestic economic activity while creating employment opportunities for residents in the area.

Deputy Minister for Tourism and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan said the expansion reflects growing confidence in Samarahan’s market, its people and Sarawak’s positive economic outlook.

He said the establishment of the outlet not only contributes to business growth but also plays an important role in providing job opportunities for locals, making it a meaningful addition to Samarahan’s commercial landscape.

“This expansion shows positive development for Samarahan as a whole, particularly in terms of economic activities and employment for the local community,” he said when officiating at the opening of the outlet on Sunday (Jan 25).

Eight Toast is a well-established franchised Nanyang kopitiam brand from Peninsular Malaysia, offering a wide range of food and beverages for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Snowdan commended the owners, sisters Xin Yee and Xin Nee, for opening their first outlet in East Malaysia in Samarahan, describing the move as a strong show of confidence in Sarawak’s growing economy.

“The outlet’s no-pork and no-lard concept makes it accessible to a wider community, while its affordable pricing caters to families, students and the general public.”

He further praised The Summer Shopping Mall for its continuous efforts in bringing recognised brands and new concepts to Samarahan, which help enhance lifestyle experiences and foster community engagement.

From a tourism perspective, he said such developments reflect positive domestic consumption and spending, while supporting supply chains linked to the tourism sector.

He added that the newly launched Boulevard in Samarahan, with its larger crowd capacity, is expected to attract more visitors and serve as a draw for business activities in the coming years.
