SIBU: Eight underage riders were detained during integrated crime prevention operations targeting illegal racing and road hooliganism around the district on Friday (Apr 10).
Sibu Police Chief, ACP Azari Miskon said the operations involved 12 officers and 56 personnel, with checks carried out on 165 vehicles and 254 individuals.
“A total of 32 summonses were issued for various traffic offences. Two motorcycles were also seized under Section 108 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for suspected involvement in illegal activities,” he said in a statement.
During the operations, 50 riders – including parents and guardians – were engaged in road safety advocacy sessions.
Sibu Deputy Police Chief, Supt Balamurugan Govindan also delivered safety briefings and advice to those stopped.
Parents of underage riders were called to the scene and advised on road safety and legal compliance.
