SARIKEI: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has kept its focus on the ground, reinforcing its pledge to engage directly with communities and respond to local concerns beyond the ebb and flow of election campaigns.

Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh said serving the people has always been a priority for GPS leaders and is carried out continuously, not only during election periods.

Len said party leaders and grassroots machinery must consistently engage with the people to better understand and address the issues they face.

“Service to the people cannot be seasonal. As leaders and party members, we must always be with the community and understand their needs from time to time.

“This has always been the approach practised by GPS to ensure that the welfare of the people continues to be safeguarded,” he said during a dinner reception held at the Kampung Seberang Sarikei Multipurpose Hall recently.

Len said the party machinery must continue strengthening its grassroots activities to ensure close and strong ties with the people are maintained.

He added that consistent engagement with local communities enables various issues and concerns to be conveyed directly to the government for further action.

He said that the grassroots approach serves as the best platform for obtaining direct feedback on the effectiveness of government policies and development programmes.

“When we are constantly on the ground, we gain a better understanding of what the people want and are able to plan actions that suit their needs,” he said.

He added that close cooperation between the government and the people is crucial to ensuring development initiatives can be implemented smoothly and benefit all segments of society.

He expressed confidence that the spirit of togetherness continuously nurtured between GPS and the people will remain a key factor in ensuring Sarawak’s development and prosperity continue well into the future.
