BINTULU: The Department of Agriculture has been urged to shift its focus from simply implementing projects and utilising allocations to delivering tangible outcomes that benefit the people.

Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said every officer must embrace a high-performance work culture by ensuring each programme achieves its intended objectives and contributes meaningfully to the development of the state’s agricultural sector.

He stressed that every division within the department should continuously identify shortcomings and implement improvements to enhance the efficiency and quality of service delivery.

Dr Rundi said the department could no longer rely on a “business as usual” approach, adding that officers at all levels must demonstrate greater accountability in meeting the expectations of both the government and the people.

“Everyone has a role to play in strengthening and enhancing the image of the department.

“We have many programmes and plans, but they are meaningless if they are not implemented effectively and fail to deliver real impact,” he said at the closing of the Department of Agriculture Sarawak Extension and Human Capital Empowerment Seminar 2026 here recently.

Meanwhile, its Sarawak director Dominic Chunggat said the seminar had not only enhanced the competency of the department’s personnel but also strengthened teamwork and fostered closer ties among staff.

He said this year’s edition incorporated sports activities to promote a healthy balance between professional development and staff well-being.

The seminar also featured eight speakers who shared their knowledge and expertise to further strengthen participants’ skills and competencies.
