BAU: Two excavator batteries were reported stolen from a construction site at a homestay in Kampung Apar Singai here on Monday (Apr 13), resulting in an estimated loss of RM1,200.

Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the incident occurred at Borneo Travel Village, where the machinery had been left at the site following construction works.

“The loss was discovered at about 9.30am when the operator returned to the site and found that two batteries from a Hitachi excavator were missing,” he said in a statement.

Initial investigations revealed that the excavator had been left unlocked in an unfenced area, which was poorly lit at night and not equipped with closed-circuit television (CCTV).

The last known use of the machine was on Apr 10 at about 5pm.

No witnesses have come forward and no suspects have been identified so far.

Police recorded statements and documented the scene, while efforts are ongoing to track down those responsible and recover the stolen items.

The case is being investigated under Section 379A(1) of the Penal Code for theft.
