KOTA SAMARAHAN: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, has called for greater urgency in completing the road project linking Kampung Tanjong Bako and Kota Samarahan, stressing that it is a vital infrastructure initiative for the people of Kuching and Samarahan.

Uggah said he is confident the appointed rescue contractor, Avinn Engineering Services Sdn Bhd, will be able to deliver the project within the timeline set by the Sarawak Government.

The seven-kilometre road, he noted, will serve as an alternative route to ease congestion and improve connectivity between the two rapidly growing areas.

“This project is essential to ensure smoother traffic movement between Kuching and Samarahan. I urge all parties involved to resolve issues related to construction materials such as sand and soil immediately so that the progress will not be hindered,” he said.

Uggah, who is Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, said this to reporters after visiting the project site for Sarawak Coastal Road’s remaining works under Package D3C at Kampung Baru today.

He revealed that the physical progress currently stands at 28 per cent, but urged the contractor to boost manpower and machinery utilisation to meet the completion target.

“Timely delivery of the project will not only benefit daily commuters but also support regional development and local economic activities.

“I want to see stronger coordination, faster work, and better resource management to keep the project on track. This road will make a big difference for residents and businesses in both areas,” he added.

The RM106.9-million project, undertaken under the Sarawak Government’s infrastructure development plan, is expected to be completed by July 2027.

“Once finished, it will provide an efficient and safer route for thousands of road users while further supporting Sarawak’s broader goal of improving rural-urban connectivity,” he said.
